e-PRO-SCHOOLS

ePlatform for Promoting Health in Schools

There is limited high-quality information on physical activity, sedentary behavior, and eating habits among adolescents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. As a result, the number of public health and education policies specifically designed for this group is limited. The ePro-Schools project, an electronic platform for health promotion in schools, aims to address these two gaps in knowledge.
ePro-Schools will analyze high-quality epidemiological data to identify the determinants of physical activity, sedentary behavior, and eating habits, and determine to what extent these behaviors are associated with the physical and mental health of adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, ePro-Schools will co-design, implement, and evaluate a modular online health intervention platform based on evidence to promote physical activity, encourage healthy eating, and reduce time spent on sedentary behaviors.

Our contribution will focus on an epidemiological study aimed at identifying the determinants of health behaviors (physical activity, sedentary behavior, eating habits) among adolescents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
The early adolescent years are a critical transition period for adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyles, such as increased physical activity and a balanced diet. Adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to adopt health-compromising behaviors (e.g., low physical activity, more sedentary behavior, poor eating habits). Since higher levels of physical activity and healthy eating habits are often associated with better mental and physical health, it is important to better understand the determinants of these behaviors.

The objective of our work is:

  • To identify behavioral profiles and the determinants associated with these profiles among adolescents from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • To determine the associations between these behavioral profiles and the mental and physical health of these young individuals.
