COINCIDE :

City-level mapping of new diagnoses of HIV infection and late diagnoses in the Greater Paris region, France

In France, nearly 5,500 new HIV diagnoses are reported each year (2023 data). The Île-de-France (IDF) region (i.e. the Greater Paris region at large) accounts for nearly 42% of new HIV diagnoses, when accounting for 19% of the French population.

Using exhaustive data on new HIV diagnoses in IDF between 2014 and 2021, the COINCIDE study aims to address two main objectives:
• To produce maps of new diagnoses in the IDF region, at the city level (and at the ”arrondissement” in Paris city), by transmission risk group and by stage of infection at diagnosis.
• To identify individual and contextual factors associated with late diagnoses (LDs) in IDF region, such as at the city level of deprivation and of HIV screening and primary care offer.

Indeed, LDs account for nearly 45% of new HIV diagnoses, with no notable improvement for over a decade. Delays in diagnosing HIV infection constitute a major public health problem: in addition to the excess morbidity and mortality linked to late diagnoses, this people (ignorant of their infection) may contribute to the transmission of HIV.
