Aspire: Access to care, health and prostitution. Participatory research

People in prostitution situations are confronted with social and health inequalities, they are also more at risk of suffering interpersonal violence, and having a deteriorated state of physical and psychological health. They are more likely to suffer from various psychological problems, sleep disorders and anxiety disorders.
However, very little quantitative data is available on the mental health of this population, which limits the provision of appropriate support to meet the specific needs of these women.

This participatory project is being carried out by researchers, members of the Mouvement du Nid, women supported by the association and clinicians specializing in psychotrauma. It has been financed by an ‘ANR-Recherche Participative’ call for projects.

It has two objectives:

  • to co-construct a tool for measuring needs in terms of access to care, adapted to our study population. This tool is called “SNO” (Symptoms, Needs, Obstacles). We will create an innovative yet simple tool: a “checklist” of simple expressions.
  • carry out a survey to establish the current state of mental and physical health of people in prostitution, and those currently in or already out of prostitution, as well as their access to care.

Project funding: ANR-Recherche Participative.
