Health literacy, defined as the ability to access, understand, and use health-related information, is an important determinant of the quality and safety of care. Understanding medical prescriptions is a particular challenge, especially among people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage, and may contribute to social inequalities in health.
In this context, Idéordo is a visual aid designed in collaboration with patients to facilitate understanding of medical prescriptions and support patients’ autonomy in managing their treatments. This study aims to assess its effectiveness in improving the understanding of prescriptions under real-world conditions among people using healthcare services for individuals experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage in Paris and its surrounding suburbs.
This is a multicenter, cluster-randomized controlled trial conducted in the Île-de-France region in medical facilities serving people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage. Participating facilities are randomized into two groups: an intervention group, in which Idéordo is used, and a control group, in which the tool is not used. Understanding of prescriptions is assessed using a standardized questionnaire and compared between the two groups.
